Dear readers,
In the opening remark of LEAD Associate Cohort 12 seminar, Chair of the Executive Board of Yayasan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (YPB) Ismid Hadad expressed that the seminar with theme on Indonesia Energy Scenario & Strategy to Anticipate Climate Change was the right topic, at right time, and aimed at right group/community: Prospective leaders of future Indonesia.
The topic discussed--energy--related climate change and global warming caused by human activities--is the greatest challenge for human beings of this century. The challenge that not only requires a harmony of collaboration from all stakeholders of various sectors to address it, but also requires leaders and pioneers of future Indonesia. Leaders with perspective on sustainable development, who are able to make a breakthrough, innovation, and to encourage and drive people to act and make a difference. Pak Ismid's complete opening remark can be read in the "Opinion" column of this newsletter.
Hopefully the LEAD network, or at least LEAD Fellows of Cohort 12 who have just completed their training with the theme of energy and climate change can and will lead and be the leaders to address the challenge.
Lastly, as the month of Ramadhan approaches we YPB/LEAD Indonesia staff would like to ask for readers' forgiveness and wish you all a meaningful and faithful Ramadhan. Selamat Berpuasa!
Warm Regards!

Ni Made Indrawati Executive Director of (Yayasan) Pilang Foundation Community Organizer and Advocacy Specialist
Ni Made Indrawati is born to provide advocacy for her community. Born in 4 October 1972, Indra has been providing advocacy for the community in her homeland at Gerokgak Sub-district, Buleleng District, Bali Province, Indonesia, almost along her adult life. Even before finishing her senior high-school in 1991 she has
|
| started volunteer work to assist the community of Sumberklampok Village – where her family lives – in their efforts to reclaim the land. For tens of years the people in her village have been tilling the ex-colonial plantation to survive. Suddenly provincial government was heard as having a plan to lease the land to a big hotel corporation. Then Indra, in her very young age, many times went to Jakarta to address the problem to national level and try to make lobby with decision makers at Department of Internal Affairs. She did not continue her education to university at that time to focus on her advocacy work. Finally, her advocacy led to success. Indra and the people of Sumberklampok Village have won the case and the owners have the legal status of their land. Since then, Indra becomes an effective community organized and continues her work in policy advocacy. [more] |
