Dear readers,
The first trimester of 2010 has passed. Many we have accomplished and still many more to pursue.
We would like to thank the generous contributions and supports from the donor agencies and other parties that have tremendously helped YPB programs running well: LEAD International, PT. Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk., Yayasan Inovasi Teknologi Indonesia, British Council, Harian Kompas, Dewan Nasional Perubahan Iklim and The Climate Project Indonesia also Greeneration Indonesia.
We highly appreciate the commitment of those who have supported us to the realization of sustainable development in our society. We have watched more and more people, institutions and private sector who has participate in YPB’s programs which is now leading to a better direction. The target has always been making a change in the development issues. By the help of donations, contributions, and sponsorship from the supporter and/or the donors, we will continue to see improvements in terms of sustainable development.
Our gratitude to all LEAD Fellows and other parties who have helped us in various programs and occasions of YPB. Their help and supports have always ensured YPB to accomplish its mission promoting sustainable development. We still have a long way to go.

Urban life produces a significant amount of carbon emissions that cause climate change. The advent of modern technological developments in industries, automotive transportation, and consumer lifestyles use a lot of natural resources and create huge volume of waste and carbon emissions. As the future leaders of tomorrow, urban youth can play an important role in taking actions in time of climate change. They are well-educated and have wide networks, good ideas, and high energy and enthusiasm..

The Internship That Brings New Experience, Friends, and Knowledge
Gaining practical knowledge was the main idea of BLP’s internship program. But as the participants blend with the people they work with, new friendships were also developed and new experiences shared. The participants stated that beyond knowledge, they also enjoy the experience of gaining new friends and family. The organizations they worked for consisted of warm, nice and friendly people..

The Launch of Cliamte Smart Leaders with Kompas Gramedia Book Fair
On Friday 26 February 2010, YPB has conducted a soft launching of “Climate Smart Leaders” a new program for youth urban, in partnership with Kompas Muda. |

The event took at Istora Senayan, in conjunction with the Kompas Gramedia book fair, where Kompas Muda celebrated its 3rd anniversary. The Climate Smart Leaders program (CSL) is a joint program between Yayasan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (YPB) and Yayasan Inovasi Teknologi Indonesia (Inotek), Dewan Nasional Perubahan Iklim (National Council for Climate Change), and Earth Charter supported by Kompas Muda, BNI, PT Jaya Ancol, British Council, Handprints, Greeneration Indonesia, and The Climate Project Indonesia, an effort to encourage youth urban to take the lead in combating climate change through their initiatives. National Project Management and Leadership for Climate Change Training(National PMLCC)
Young generation is the world’s future leader who has potential capacity and competence to encounter one of current world’s main challenges, climate security. |

The issue has been rapidly moving up the political and economic agenda over recent years, globally. Responding to this challenge, the British Council through its Climate Cool Programme and Yayasan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan designed a training on “National Project Management and Leadership for Climate Change” (National PMLCC). Climate Cool Programme is a global programme initiated sustainable network of young people in East Asia region which aims to build personal action in limiting the contribution they and society contribute to global warming. “Climate Cool” reflected a “cool real action” by youth combating climate change.[more] |

The second training for the second badge divided into three sessions. The first session was held from 28-31 December 2009 in Pidie. The main object of the training is the comprehension the concepts of sustainability and sustainable development for the participants.

The ornamental fishermen are happy to have new tools!
A great overture orchestral was performed by Twilite YOUTH Orchestra on August 17, 2009 at Bali Room, Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Jakarta to celebrate TYO’s 5th Anniversary on Indonesia’s Independence Day. |

. It was not only a performance of classical music. A part of the revenue from ticket sold was dedicated to Sinar Baru, a group of Penyabangan village fishermen, who apply sustainable fishing practices, a shift from cyanide use that destroyed the marine habitat of Buleleng district, Bali. With Rp. 5 million from TYO, the fishermen group can buy environmentally fishing tools.

Salute to Tiyok Prasetyoadi and Team:
The Winner of Architecture Design Contest 2010 by Bandung Institute of Technology

Congratulations to LEAD Indonesia Fellow Cohort 10, Tiyok Prasetyoadi assisted by a team, as the winner of Sayembara Disain Arsitek (Architecture Design Contest), an architecture competition carried out by Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Tiyok received the award for his design which represents the concepts of green building. The green building concept sets out the efficiency of using energy, water, and other resources, the reduction of waste, pollution and environmental degradation, also protecting occupant health and improving employee productivity. Congratulations to Nenny Babo for The 2009 Senior Research Award
Congratulations to LEAD Indonesia Fellow Cohort 8, Nenny Babo as The 2009 Senior Research Award winner from Indonesia. Ms. Babo received the award for her works which have made significant contributions to research activities, particularly in the conservation area and the study of primatology in Sulawesi. Her dedication has inspired many, as she takes “non mainstream” career path, but extremely useful as Indonesia is one of a few countries with endemic primate species. She has shown the leadership to conserve the world’s endanger biodiversity. We wish her more success for years to come. [more] |

Due to celebrate Siemens 100th anniversary, Siemens Indonesia carried out a writing competition with science and technology as the theme. The competition is dedicated for those who work in the media industry in Indonesia, both press and online media. Siemens see and thinks that media has a strong power to influence the people.
