Community Plan Document: Lamreh

Tsunami survivors in Aceh Nanggroe Darussalam had received abundance of assistance from various institutions right after tsunami devastated the area. There was no time to develop a well-planned development strategy at that time. The donor agencies, the public assistances, the corporate agencies, NGOs and individuals worked in a very remarkable spirit to help the people of Aceh in time of tsunami that washed away so many lives, homes, infrastructures and facilities.

Despite of the values of such a massive assistance, the community of NAD also had experienced receiving many kinds of contributions that might not fit into their needs and culture. In such situation the assistance would be no longer helpful but a waste instead. Therefore, it was important to develop a community plan document to ensure that the incoming contribution could meet the actual needs of the community.

With the support from LEAD International, the LEAD Indonesia had facilitated the process of developing a community plan for Lamreh village community, in the district of Mesjid Raya, Aceh Besar, where the Malahayati sea harbor is situated. The community plan was produced by a participatory approach where the community members involved in the planning process and identified their needs for their future. At the end of the session, the representative of the community presented the community plan document to the potential donor and NGOs who would like to assist the village. This was an example of a supply has to meet a demand, to make it more effective for the people of NAD.
