Coming Soon: A Book to Remember Pak Kismadi
July 24, 2005 was the 1000th day anniversary of the late M.S. Kismadi, the previous Director of YPB (1992 - 2002). His colleagues, friends and LEAD Indonesia Fellows have collaborated to produce "Cermin Ilalang - Kenangan Murid M.S. Kismadi" a publication that shows his
works, thoughts and friendship. Eka Budianta (Fellow Cohort 4) is the editor of the book. YPB will launch the book in August 2005 at YPB office where the family of late Kismadi will attend the event.
 
Malahayati Eco Village
With the donation of USD23,943 from the LEAD International's Special Opportunities Fund, LEAD Indonesia/YPB can participate in the eco-village program in Aceh. The program is initiated by The Ministry of Environment (Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup) and supported totally by some LEAD Fellows, amongst others are Laksmi Dhewanthi (Cohort 3), Maria Hartiningsih (Cohort I), Teten Avianto (Cohort 5), Yenny (Cohort 7), Diah Parahita (Cohort 6), and Baiquni (Cohort 8). Judges for the Sustainability Report Award
The Executive Director of LEAD Indonesia/YPB Darwina Wijayanti, accompanied by Fellow of Cohort 6 Rahendrawan, was appointed as judge at the Sustainability Report Award. This first-in-Indonesia Award was held by Ikatan Akuntan Indonesia (IAI, The Association of Accountants in Indonesia). Winners have been announced on 23 June 2005. Read more
 
Water Treatment Units for Aceh
LEAD Indonesia/YPB has coordinated the efforts of LEAD international and the Tsunami Recovery Indonesia (an organization of individuals and professional groups in England) in donating two water treatment units "Jeumpa" and "Teratai" for Aceh.
Two More units, donated by PT Schneider-Electric Indonesia, are being assembled. All these units are designed and produced by PT Envitech Perkasa (Muhtadi Sjadzali, Fellow of Cohort 1). Read more
 
Young Leaders Project (YLP)
Richard Harrap from England, the first YLP participant in Indonesia, has started his job placement of Saving the Environment for a Better Future: Natural Resources and Sustainable Enterprises in Kampung Panaruban, Subang, West Java. His program
is for two months starting 3 July 2005. Tri Mumpuni (Fellow of Cohort 2) is his mentor and host. Read more
 
LEAD Associate Training of Cohort 11, Session 3
Session 3 of the National Training Social Carrying Capacity for LEAD Associates of cohort 11 had just completed. It was held from 13 to 17 June 2005. On the 14 of June there was the Seminar with the topic of Corporate-Stakeholder Partnership:

License for the 'AtKisson Accelerator Tools'
LEAD Indonesia/YPB has obtained a license from AtKisson, Inc. to use the "AtKisson Accelerator Tools" for training, planning, and
implementation. This tools has proven effective to support a speedy attainment of sustainability. Read more
 
Special Opportunities Fund for Fellows
Tri Mumpuni (Fellow of Cohort 2) has received grant in the amount of USD 50,000 from the LEAD International through its program of Special Opportunities Fund for her project of Rural Electrification at Palanggaran village, In the National Park of Halimun (Taman Nasional
Halimun, Sukabumi, West Java.
Muhtadi Sjadzali (Fellow of Cohort 1) has also received the grant in the amount of USD 25,000 for water treatment plants in Aceh (see the article "Water Treatment Units for Aceh."). Read more

Six months have passed in 2005. How many steps you have stamped? How many more flight of stairs you need to take to get to your target of this year?

In this mid-year Newsletter LEAD Indonesia / YPB would like to take the opportunity to drop a word with you and share with you of the steps that we have made, so that the flight of stairs we are to take will be more meaningful.

Training for Decision Makers of District/Municipality Level
Supported by the Ford Foundation, YPB is developing a curriculum and somecase studies for the training of decision makers at district/municipality level. The training is to be launched next year in the program of 'Promoting Leadership for Integrated Development'. Read more
New Program in Buleleng, Bali
LEAD Indonesia/YPB with the support of LEAD International and the Darwin Initiatives, has started a new program in
Buleleng concerning Conserving Coral Reefs Through Community Ownership and Enterprises in Indonesia. The program is to encourage fishermen to practice their business for a living by complying to the standards of Marine Aquarium Culture (MAC), i.e. in their efforts to hunt aquarium fishes they would be avoiding damaging the environment.
