The program of Developing Sustainable Business is aimed to introduce sustainable development scheme into the business community, using AtKisson Compass (directions toward sustainability). The AtKisson Compass is an applied tools that easily can be adapted by the private sector, into its business strategy. This is a promotion of sustainable development mission to the company. In the first stage of DSB, LEAD Indonesia received USD 45,000 from LEAD International through its Special Opportunity Investment Fund (SOIF) to work with three companies: mining company (PT Aneka Tambang), plantation company (PT Indah Kiat), and energy power plan company (PT. Indonesia Power). The three companies have committed to apply the AtKisson Tools in its business strategy. In the end of the project, the three companies have produced indicators for sustainable development in four aspects (economy, environment, social and well being aspects), with the index that they can use for the assessment process. The ultimate goal of the company by having the Sustainability Compass is to produce a more transparent and accountable Sustainability Report. The British Embassy has approved to donate GBP 135,204 (USD 285,430.67) for the next stage, a 2-year program. Through the learning process with 8 companies (from stage one and stage two), LEAD Indonesia will have a track record to adjust the AtKisson Compass to the local setting and different core business. The promotion to other companies in the future will be much easier so the impacts to develop business community within the scheme of sustainable development will bring more significant influence. LEAD Indonesia is now in the stage of working with two new clients to assist company developing sustainable business framework (2007-2008). LEAD Indonesia new partners are: PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (Riaupulp) representing pulp and paper industry, and PT Aneka Tambang (Nickel Mining Business Unit) representing state-own mining company. The support from the British Embassy and strong commitment from both companies to promote the sustainable development allow this activity takes place. In the next stage, there will be 3 more companies to be partner in the project. They are expected to represent manufacture, services, and private mining company.
