  • Dear Readers,

    This newsletter presents progress up to first week of December 2006. We tried to put the latest up at the last minute, and thanks to all the contributors who have made this newsletter rich with progress stories about YPB/LEAD Indonesia programs.

    It is the end of the year again! Time flies so fast, and we are at YPB/LEAD Indonesia office once again embark upon the hectic months of preparing and organizing the LEAD Associate Training for Cohort XII, which is to start on February 2007. Deadline for this special training is extended to 15 January 2007. So hurry up register now!.

    Last but not least, we would like to wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS, may the spirit of Christmas be with you all this year; and a Healthy Happy New Year 2007.

    One more year, the year 2006, will soon be over. We always have something to learn from our journey each year. For YPB the year 2006 is a very dynamic year, when all the projects run as new opportunities and they come with responsibility to ensure it is implemented appropriately.    [more]

    LEAD Associate Training of Cohort XII
    LEAD Associate Training (LAT) by LEAD Indonesia for Cohort XII will be launched in February 2007 with the topics of Energy and Climate Change in the context of sustainable development. The National training will be held in Jakarta, and it's registration is extended to 15 January 2007. The regional in China, and the international in Indonesia. Participants are young leaders from various sectors. Sponsorships are welcomed for the national as well as international sessions.   [more]


    Forum and Workshops "Sustainability of The Planet" in Stockholm, 3 - 4 October 2006
    Participants from various sectors discussed key topics of sustainability in the Forum and Workshops organized by The Swedish Industry Association - Sinf Environment and Quality "Sustainability of The Planet - issues, incentives and tools on sustainability in the supply chain" in Stockholm, Sweden, 3rd and 4th October 2006. Sponsored by the Swedish International Development Aid (the government of Sweden), Darwina Widjajanti (Executive Director of YPB) and Maria D. Nurani (Training & Communication Manager) joined the event.   [more]
     
    The First Seminar on "ISO 26000: Social Responsibility" in Indonesia
    In the first seminar of ISO 26000, at Manggala Wanabakti on November 23rd, 2006, the keynote speaker was Prof. Emil Salim, the Chair of YPB's Board of Trustees. In his speech, Prof. Emil Salim stated that Indonesia ought not to feel threatened by the coming ISO 26000. Indonesia, supported by BSN, is expected to be actively involve in the formulation of ISO 26000.   [more]

    LEAD Trainers Took Part in the Leadership Course for Young Leaders in Governance in Colombo, Sri Lanka
    The latest of a series of leadership courses aiming at strengthening the governance capacities of young leaders in the Asia-Pacific region the South Asia Sub-Regional Leadership Course for Young Leaders in Governance, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, was taken place from 16 to 21 October 2006. Any Sulystiowati (Fellow of Cohort 7) and Tari Menayang (staff) were among the five facilitators/trainers.   [more]

    The Second Workshop on "Case Teaching in Practice" of Promoting Leadership for Integrated Development Program
    Eleven senior trainers and lectures from Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Bogor and Jakarta participated in the second workshop of "Case Teaching in Practice" of the program supported by Ford Foundation "Promoting Leadership for Integrated Development."  [more]
     
    Market and Capitalizing Assembly
    Market and Capitalizing Assembly held Sunday, 3 December 2006 in Sanggalangit Market, a fish roe market, in Buleleng, Bali. The Assembly was the wrap-up of a series of training, supported by Darwin Initiative, for Gerokgak sub-district fishermen and fish
    farmers for their capacity of micro business establishment.   [more]
     
    Progress of "Bridging Leadership" Program in NAD
    CIDA supported program "Bridging Leadership: Strengthening the Capacity of Young Potential Leaders of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam" advanced to its second training in November 2006 in Takengon, Aceh
    Tengah, with the topic of Sustainable Development Paradigm. Speakers for this training included Ismail Wahab from Takengon Bappedalda and Yanis Rinaldi, Chair of Environment Affairs office of Aceh Tengah. The project's goal is to strengthen young leaders from various sectors with the understanding on the importance of sustainable development, leadership visioning and skills, and with the capacity to work in a collaborative scheme.    [more]
     
    Seminar and Training on "AtKisson Sustainability Accelerator Toolkit for Sustainability Planning and Assessment"
    Some private companies and civil society organizations/NGOs have participated in the seminar and training on "AtKisson Sustainability Accelerator Tool Kit for Sustainability Planning and Assessment" in October 2006, conducted by LEAD Indonesia/YPB in partnership with the AtKisson Group. The Tool Kit is advantageous for developing a sustainable CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility).    [more]
     
    LEAD International Representative Visited Bali Project
    During Ms. Andrea Deri's visit to Buleleng District, Bali, from 12 to 30 August 2006, she has observed
    many activities of LEAD Indonesia project supported by the Darwin Initiative "Conserving Reefs for Community Ownership and Enterprise." Ms. Deri did not limit herself only as observer in the TOT, but she also delivered a session about facilitation technique.   [more]
     
    Congratulations to Tri Mumpuni (Puni)
    LEAD Fellow Cohort II, who has received an award as Selected Personage of year 2006 who brings significant changes to Indonesia, from TEMPO magazine. Puni has been establishing community- based electricity to the poor rural areas as a vehicle to encourage social and economic development for the community. We wish that her initiative will inspire us to bring more contribution to the country.
