Darwina Sri Widjajanti has more than 20 years professional experience working in social and environmental issues. Since 1986, for around 8 years she worked for Center for Implementation and Policy Studies, and was involved in several policy research. She participated in two long term projects with a team of Harvard Institute for International Development: Integrated Pesticide Management and Integrated Waste Management. The first project recommended a policy of changing the farmers behavior in pesticide utilization and drafted the Presidential Decree that banned more than 80 brand of pesticide. The second project produced a working model of waste management which was adopted subsequently by the Ministry of Public Work of Indonesia and the World Bank under Metropolitan Improvement Program.

In 1994 Darwina joined a US conservation organization, The Nature Conservancy, where she was later appointed as the Director of Policy and Program Development. She developed program and proposal for potential donor agencies, in close cooperation with field staffs. She has also gained a strong understanding of conservation issues of Komodo National Park and Lore Lindu National Park. During her 7 years period with The Nature Conservancy, she had the opportunity to learn more on resource mobilization strategy and promote conservation and community development to individuals and corporate sector.

In 2001 she worked for Tifa Foundation, a major donor agency associated with Open Society Institute, as Capacity Building Manager. Her responsibility was to strengthen NGO organizational management. She took the initiative to develop financial sustainability scheme for NGO community and worked closely with CSSP (Civil Society Strengthening Program, under USAID) and Public Interest Research and Advocacy Center (Pirac) by facilitating training and supporting the publication of various books. One of its important program was Training the Trainers on fundraising strategy, in partnership with Venture Fundraising and Resource Mobilization. She also encouraged the process of NGO Accountability and Transparency which lead into manual of self assessment and capacity building program. She promoted the development of "Bridging Diversity" progam at Tifa Foundation which later becomes one of key program at Tifa Foundation. At the end of her term at Tifa Foundation, Darwina has developed fundraising strategy for the donor agency that led into partnership with Danish Embassy and SIDA (Swedish International Development Aid).

Darwina started to work with Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD) as the National Program Director of LEAD Indonesia in 2004, as well as the Executive Director of Yayasan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (YPB). She envisioned the organization with new strategic directions to encounter new challenges. She creates additional program as additional activities to LEAD training tradition. The new program are: LEADing by Sharing (training), LEADing by action (sustainable development in practice), and LEADing by partnership (policy research). Under her leadership YPB has build new partnership with other international organizations; Darwin Initiative, Ford Foundation, Schneider , UNIDO and CIDA. She started to work closely with LEAD Fellows in certain area such energy and water issues. She has also created Corporate Social Responsibility training program to reach out to companies and promoting sustainable development into the business community. She became one of the jurors in Corporate Social Responsibility Award 2005 with the Indonesia Association of Accountant. With all of these exposures under her direction, YPB has become more visible than before. She believes that sustainable development should be in the main stream of development since the planet has limited carrying capacity and people have to be served in a socially equitable scheme.

Darwina has completed her bachelor degree in Sociology from the Faculty of Social and Political Science, University of Indonesia; and has her master degree in Public and International Affairs from University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. She has participated in various national and international courses such as Smithsonian Environmental Leadership Program USA (1999), Qualified Training Services workshop by the World Bank Institute (2001), Fundraising for Non Profit Organization course in India (2002). She also joined international events such as World Urban Forum in Vancouver (1996) in cooperation with LEAD Canada, CIVICUS conference in Vancouver (2001), UNIDO Green Business Conference in India (2004), Asia Europe Forum on Environmental Issues (2005), Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (2005), Joint Curriculum Symposium on Sustainable Development for Asia Pacific with Keio University (2005), UN Commission on Sustainable Development in New York (2006) supported by IIEF (The Indonesian International Education Foundation). She has also participated Sustainability Planet in Stockholm (2006) supported by SIDA (Swedish International Development Assistance) and expanded collaboration with CIDA (Canada International Development Assistance) in Bridging Leadership Program for community leaders in Aceh (2006-2007).
